Floor Sealant and Coating Application Information

Section 13-616 of the MCPHD Wellfield Protection Standards states that: “A personal shall ensure that floors within active maintenance or chemical product handling/use areas or chemical waste storage areas are adequately maintained and in good repair.”

Why would I need to seal my floor?

Sealing your floor with an appropriate product protects the condition of your floor, prevents spilled chemicals from migrating through the floor and into groundwater, and makes spills easier to clean up. Additionally, if you are required to build a secondary containment area for any of your chemicals, often sealants must be applied to the floor and berm/wall surface to form a barrier to prevent spill migration.

What types of sealants are available?

There are many types of products available and many different manufacturers. For a general guide, check out our Floor Sealant Guide. Once you have an idea of what type of coating you are interested, we suggest you engage an appropriate contractor and talk to them about your needs. We do not suggest applying a floor coating yourself for several reasons. Often, application requirements are complex. Many floor sealing products are only available to contractors. Often, if a contractor installs your floor coating product, warranties are available.

Who can seal my floor?

MCWEC does not endorse any specific contractors or products but provides the following list for your convenience. If your company applies floor coatings and would like to be added to this list, please contact us and we would be happy to add you.
