Located in the northeast area of Marion County, Indiana and home to one of the county’s drinking water protection areas, the city of Lawrence has been recognized by Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) as one of Indiana’s newest Clean Communities.
The Clean Community Program is a free and voluntary program aimed at recognizing and rewarding Indiana communities for implementing a proactive, positive approach to addressing community and social issues through sustainable environmental and wellness projects.

In the Bronze tier, communities are recognized as those who have a positive environmental history (determined by IDEM compliance) and have created a Clean Team to help achieve their goals for advancing to the Silver Level.
May Deb Whitfield comments that the city’s Clean Team will be comprised of local stakeholders who will be responsible for identifying and developing the projects for this program.
One way for citizens to participate in these efforts right away is to take steps to prevent pollution in their home or business. Easy actions at home include disposing of waste properly, reducing use of outdoor chemicals, and fixing water leaks (find more tips for homeowners here). Businesses that are located in Marion County, Indiana can receive free pollution prevention consultations from the Marion County Wellfield Education Corporation.
We congratulate the City of Lawrence and look forward to the projects that will continue to move this community forward!
