This month, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) presented a 2025 Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence to Pepper Construction, located in Marion County’s Riverside Wellfield Protection Area.
The award was in the Recycling and Reuse category for the company’s efforts to increase construction waste recycling. Through their Waste Reduction Program, Pepper Construction provides on-site construction waste recycling with a unique partnership with Construction Waste Recycling. No additional costs are passed to the customers nor do the tradesmen need extra extra time and effort to segregate materials by type.
Construction waste is a major waste stream in the United States. In 2018 alone, 600 million tons of construction and demolition debris were generated – more than twice the amount of generated municipal solid waste. We applaud Pepper for their efforts in leading the way in recycling for the construction industry in our city!

The Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence are Indiana’s most prestigious environmental recognition awards. They are reserved for the most innovative, sustainable, and exemplary programs or projects that positively impact Indiana’s environment and demonstrate measurable environmental, economic, and social benefits. The awards are given as part of Pollution Prevention Week.
