Protecting water quality is especially important during times of drought. With less water comes higher concentrations of contaminants and increases in runoff from dehydrated soils.
To help the public track drought conditions in throughout the state, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources creates weekly and monthly water resource updates which are posted to the Indiana Water Availability page.
These reports combine information from federal, state, and local partners and networks. Maps and tables lay out data from the previous week such as drought indices and groundwater levels and also look to the future with precipitation and weather forecasts.

The Indiana drought map can also be viewed on the interactive application from the U.S. Drought Monitor, a partnership between the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the United States Department of Agriculture and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Keeping track of the drought conditions in your area is important, but regardless of your status, whether you are a business or individual, you can work every day to keep chemicals away from our essential surface and groundwater resources.
