Groundwater Week is in full swing today in Las Vegas Nevada. Each year the National Groundwater Association (NGWA) hosts the premiere event for groundwater professionals to come together for education sessions, advocacy preparation and networking.
If you were unable to attend, check out the NGWA social media (Facebook, X, Instagram) and YouTube channel for highlights from the conference. Of note today was keynote speaker Jim Davidson, climber/expedition leader, New York Times best-selling author, and former hydrologist. Jim presented a powerful message of overcoming change, challenge and uncertainty through resilience.
Also speaking at Groundwater Week was Grant Ferguson, 2025 Darcy Lecturer and professor of hydrogeology in the Department of Civil, Geological and Environmental Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. Each year, a panel of scientists and engineers invites an outstanding groundwater professional to share his or her work with their peers and students through this lecture series. The series was established in 1986 and named in honor of Henry Darcy of France for his 1856 investigations that established the physical basis upon which groundwater hydrogeology has been studied ever since. Look for recordings of other lectures in the series at: https://www.ngwa.org/events-and-education/groundwater-lecture-series/past-lecturers-darcy
In addition to the keynotes, networking, and opportunities to interact with leading groundwater vendors, this year’s event featured a new Groundwater Scientists and Engineers Career Fair. The fair was a great opportunity to explore new career paths and strengthen your professional network. Be sure to add this to your agenda for next year!
