This Saturday (Sept 30, 2023) the Indianapolis Department of Public Works & RecycleForce are hosting a FREE hazardous waste AND electronics waste disposal community event from 9am-2pm at Garfield Park.
Marion County residents are encouraged to drop off household hazardous waste (HHW) for proper disposal as well as outdated and/or broken electronics for proper recycling. Remember: it is ILLEGAL in Indiana to dispose of electronics in your household trash.
This event is free! There is no cost to drop items off.
When you arrive to the park, remain in your car and follow staff directions.
HWW that will be accepted includes:
- Batteries
- Adhesives
- Aerosol cans
- Air fresheners
- Ammonia
- Bathroom cleaners
- Brake fluid
- Carpet cleaners
- Chlorine bleach
- Compact fluorescent light bulbs
- Detergents
- Fertilizer
- Fire extinguishers
- Floor wax
- Fluorescent light tubes
- Furniture polish
- Gasoline
- Glue
- Herbicides
- Insecticides
- Lead acid batteries
- LED bulbs
- Lighter fluid
- Elemental mercury
- Moth crystals
- Nail polish & nail polish remover
- Oven cleaner
- Paint
- Paint
- Paint stripper
- Paint thinner
- Pesticides
- Pool chemicals
- Propane tanks (less than 20 pounds)

As a general rule of thumb, acceptable electronics include anything with a cord attached, plus the following:

- Keyboards

- Uninterrupted power supply batteries
- USB drives
