Last year the Indiana Finance Authority conducted a study of water demand and availability in Central Indiana to better understand our water resources and propose solutions for water supply issues and future growth and economic development in the region.
The study looked at Marion county and the surrounding 9 counties (Boone, Hamilton, Madison, Hancock, Shelby, Johnson, Morgan, and Hendricks). Findings were presented at the Indiana Water Summit in August of 2022.
The executive summary report describes some of the key findings of two previous reports; the Phase I forecast of future water demand in Central Indiana and the Phase III analysis of water availability that
applies a water budget approach to understand where and when water is available.
The summary also identifies options for new supplies and conservation to meet the needs of Central Indiana during periods of high seasonal demands and to manage the potential effects of climate change.
More information about the report, including explainer videos is available on the Indiana Finance Authority’s Central Indiana Water Study webpage at https://www.in.gov/ifa/regional-water-studies/central-indiana-water-study/.
