Recycling Market Development Grants Available to Reduce Waste in Indiana

June 8, 2022

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) recently announced the availability of grant funding for recycling projects from the Recycling Market Development Program

Businesses, local government, solid waste management districts, and nonprofit organizations are invited to submit proposals which help reduce waste and/or increase recyclable materials collection. Groups focused on education/outreach efforts regarding recycling and waste reduction are also encouraged to apply.

We applaud IDEM and the Recycling Market Development Board for initiating this project to encourage waste reduction. Keeping chemicals out of the disposal and less likely to reach the water supply is essential to providing protecting the environment and also our drinking water.

Projects should also demonstrate sustainability and an understanding of the changing economy for recyclers and look at where monies can be used most effectively to increase statewide recycling.

Eligible candidates may seek a grant ranging from $50,000 to $500,000. Proposals are being accepted through June 15, 2022 and funding determinations will be made in the fall.
