May 21, 2020

Learn about potential threats to groundwater contamination in Lesson 4 of the Groundwater Foundation’s online resources: Pollution.

This lesson explores the concepts of

  • Nitrates
  • Pharmaceuticals and personal care products
  • Improperly managed on-site wastewater treatment systems
  • Overuse and depletion
  • PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances – a group of chemicals that have been used in a wide range of applications since the 1940s which have the potential to accumulate in the environment and our bodies)

In addition to the reading material and activities, try one of the experiments to attempt at cleaning your own sample of polluted water.
