The EPA requires that public water utilities publish a special report every year called a “Consumer Confidence Report”. The purpose of the report is to protect public health by requiring water utilities to publish information about any potential health risks from the quality, treatment, and management of their drinking water supply so that consumers can make informed decisions. The reports are essentially a summary of water quality.
The three main public water supplies in Marion County are Lawrence Utilities which provides water to the City of Lawrence, Speedway Waterworks which provides water to the Town of Speedway, and Citizens Energy which provides water to the rest of Marion County.
The Consumer Confidence Reports show different contaminants detected and at different levels for each utility, partly because each uses different source water and different treatment systems and methods. Drinking water in Lawrence is sourced exclusively from groundwater. Drinking water in Speedway is sourced from surface water and groundwater, dependent on the time of year. Drinking water in the rest of Marion County is a mix of groundwater and surface water all year long.
Each utility’s report is provided on their website, but they are also available below for easy access!
