World Water Day was created to focus attention on water issues across the world and inspire people to make a difference. It is celebrated every year on March 22. We wanted to remind you of some cool facts about Indianapolis’s water!
- About 40% of Indianapolis’s water comes from groundwater!
- As our city grows, groundwater will be used to fulfill the growing demand for water. Indianapolis already withdraws the maximum amounts possible from surface water (like the White River and Fall Creek).
- We withdrew about 9 million gallons of groundwater last year for public drinking water!
Protecting our wellfields is critical to insure that we have access to safe drinking water in the future!
